Annelies Schulte<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-medium-font-size\" style=\"color:#45a300\">Dr. Schulte obtained a degree in biotechnology and plant physiology at Groningen University. During this time she discovered the use of plant cell cultures as flexible system to study plant biochemical and physiological processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-medium-font-size\" style=\"color:#45a300\">At Leiden University, she continued for her PhD on plant cell cultures of <em>Catharanthus roseus<\/em> as a means to unravel the biosynthesis pathway to the valuable anti-cancer products vinblastine and vincristine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-medium-font-size\" style=\"color:#45a300\">During a post-doc position at TU-Delft, she worked on developing a method for random saturated mutagenesis to optimize industrial proteins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-medium-font-size\" style=\"color:#45a300\">In 1999, she joined the breeding company De Ruiter Seeds as R&amp;D group leader of the Biotechnology and Seed Technology teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-medium-font-size\" style=\"color:#45a300\">In 2005, she returned to Leiden University on her own grant to develop new, non-GMO, oligonucleotide-based technologies for optimization of plant (cell) production capacity and characteristics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-medium-font-size\" style=\"color:#45a300\">In 2009, she founded her Holding and ExPlant Technologies to further build on the use of plant cell and organ cultures as production platform for plant-based products and to continue development of oligonucleotide-based applications in plants.
